TINY CORE VASE BY WILLEM VAN HOOFF
Part of the series Core. Inspired by prehistoric African building techniques. Van Hooff have been fascinated by vessels and their clear and easy function. Their function is to hold and transport water. But besides that it has been a canvas for humanity to express themselves with.
When Van Hooff started to express himself through this object, a new form of language came out. Van Hooff wanted to challenge the contour of a vessels by bringing them out of balance. Each vessel contains a hidden chamber that brings the vessels back into balance by weight of the water they cary.
Willem Van Hooff (b. 1992, Netherlands), Eindhoven based Designer, graduated in 2018 from the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Considering himself a craftsman, Van Hoff achieves a raw style by availing of primitive techniques. Seeking new potentials in storytelling or materiality, the designer/artist often works with traditional machinery, methods, and existing products, primarily in stoneware and wood, thus bringing new, exciting life into traditional materials.
