HORN LAMP BY MARIA KOSHENKOVA
The Copenhagen based glass artist Maria Koshenkova (b. 1981, Russia) has a Master’s degree from The Art Academy in St. Petersburg. In her works, Koshenkova combines the basic raw conditions of humanity with a Scandinavian aesthetic that she later adopted. The focus is on communicating powerful ideas and strong emotions. She wants to create an aesthetic experience that opens up several different interpretive possibilities.
Koshenkova develops her work in series, each grounded in a shared conceptual framework. Central to her practice is the idea of genius loc - the unique atmosphere of a place - which shapes her creative process. Her works often originate from specific situations or locations, transforming real objects or phenomena into abstract, poetic forms.
Her glass sculptures can thus be seen as metamorphoses of reality. As she states: “Through this artistic remake, I strive to complement and reshape the material world I inhabit.”
MATERIALS: blown glass, silver amalgam, metal, powder coating, organic matter
