CLAY AS FORM AS PLAY AS FUNCTION (ORANGE) BY ANNELIE GRIMWADE

Material: Glazed Stoneware

This collection of bespoke ceramic pieces by Annelie Stokke Grimwade explores self-care as a creative and healing process through the tactile nature of clay. When working with clay—pulling, punching, pinching, stroking, and smoothing—she experiences a feedback loop of motor impulses and sensory awareness that isn’t verbal. The material quite literally bridges the gap between thought and emotion, manifesting as lived form.

By cultivating movements, forms, and colours that intuitively feel good, the resulting objects visually reflect a sense of compassion and resilience developed in the process. Each piece is designed to soothe, inviting touch and offering a moment of calm while reminding us to treat our emotions with curiosity, kindness, and care.

About the artist: Annelie Stokke Grimwade is a multidisciplinary artist of Swedish Sámi and British descent, currently based in Denmark. Her practice spans sculpture, performance, and writing. Her work delves into themes of oppression through a lens of ambiguity, using a kaleidoscopic approach to explore social and environmental issues. By intertwining elements of beauty and conflict, identity and struggle, she crafts counter-narratives that highlight interconnection and complexity. Annelie’s art balances representation and abstraction, drawing on folklore, power structures, and radical ideas. Through animism and play, she envisions worlds that bridge opposites—combining scientific understanding, spirituality, and artistic expression. With her work, she seeks to challenge the stigma around uncertainty, fostering awareness and dialogue through imagination, interconnectedness, and compassion.
