BEAM EIGHTY-FIVE, LOVESTRUCK STOOL IN "OXI ION" BY SUNHYO MAST
The b85 series were born from constraint, questioning how much sculptural freedom can exist within imposed rules. Limiting the field of possibilities transforms my often chaotic approach into a more serene visual language, anchoring the objects to the ground while letting the energy of their inhabited space flow through them.
All pieces are handcrafted and finished individually. Natural variations in color, texture, proportions, and surface detailing are inherent to the artisanal process and shall not be regarded as faults or defects.
Each item is one of a kind and may differ from visual representations.
Most works exist as part of a series - repetitions of a form, never of a result. Handmaking ensures that each piece carries its own subtle differences and identity.
Sunhyo Mast is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and curator based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His practice bridges the worlds of sculpture and design, creating bespoke furniture pieces that push the boundaries between functional object and artistic expression. By embracing an intentionally chaotic process, Sunhyo redefines the value of materials, prioritizing the use of discarded or reclaimed elements over new, pristine ones. This approach not only challenges conventional ideas of beauty and utility but also reflects a deeper inquiry into the lifecycle of materials.
MATERIALS: Douglas fir, satin, lacquer
DIMENSIONS: 42 X 27 X 32 cm
MADE TO ORDER. PRODUCTION TIME 2.5 WEEKS.
