Cathrine Raben Davidsen (b. 1972, Copenhagen, Denmark)

Cathrine Raben Davidsen is a Danish artist whose work delves into profound existential questions, focusing on the cycle of life, death, and human transformation. She explores the interconnection between humans and other living beings, as well as our relationships with earthly entities. With a unique curiosity that blends historical knowledge with contemporary perspectives, her art challenges viewers to expand their understanding of how the past informs the present. Raben Davidsen's creative approach embraces multiplicity, breaking away from traditional hierarchies between fine art, craftsmanship, and design.

Her work draws from a wide range of visual and philosophical influences, including Renaissance and modern art history, ancient mythology, non-Western religion, science, and feminist literature from the 20th century. In her pieces, she often juxtaposes seemingly unrelated elements from different cultural spheres, creating an intertextual dialogue within her paintings, drawings, prints, and ceramics. Additionally, she collaborates in areas such as costume design, stage design, and artist books.

In 2022, a store dedicated to her work opened in Copenhagen, featuring ceramics, limited editions, lithographs, and ceramic lamps, as well as a connected workshop where visitors can observe her artistic process. Raben Davidsen holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has exhibited widely in Denmark and internationally. Her works are included in prestigious collections like The National Gallery of Denmark and Trapholt Museum for Modern Art. She has also received numerous awards, including the Beckett Art Prize, and was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog by the Queen of Denmark. She is represented by Nilufar Gallery in Milan and The Future Perfect in the U.S.
